During my undergraduate studies at The University of Minnesota Duluth, I was assigned a project to visually illustrate a song of my choice. The final design was to be three panels; the first to represent the song's melody, the second to portray the beat, and the last to combine the two as album art. In addition, the illustrations were to be done solely using glyphs from a font in Adobe Illustrator, rather than shape tools. I selected the song "Shut Up And Dance" by Kitten and the Hip, since the song is upbeat, with distinct electro synth bass and scat-like lyrics. My font of choice was NickelodeonNF Regular, due to its playful character shapes that capture the old-fashioned, spirited nature of the song.
